Cultivating a Lifestyle of Fasting

ree

In the Bible Jesus states, “when you fast…” not “if you fast” which suggests to me that there is an expectation for fasting to be apart of our lifestyle. In the Bible we see many people who fasted for insight, breakthrough, and before being commissioned into the Kingdom purpose that the Lord already had planned for them. I believe we should cultivate this same practice.

As we Seek God through the reading of The Word and Prayer, adding fasting to this powerful mix of Kingdom Habits can help us to build a deeper relationship with God.

Fasting also know as tsom In Hebrew or צוֹם as defined by strongs definition states that fasting, “denotes a deliberate abstention from food (and sometimes water) for a set period in order to humble oneself before God, intensify prayer, express grief, or seek divine intervention. It is never presented as asceticism for its own sake but as worship that directs the heart toward the LORD.”

In life we are so focused with consuming the things of this world not realizing that the things of this world are fleeting pleasures that bring no eternal benefit. Instead of seeking the things of this world that bring no benefit and lack the transformational power to bring breakthrough, healing, purpose and good fruit into our lives, we should seek the things that do. And those are Kingdom things.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭

As we ponder on the idea of offering our lives as a living sacrifice it only makes sense to humble ourselves before The God who saved us and offers us a life free of bondage & captivity. This is our reasonable worship as it states in Romans 12:1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

So as we move into a realm of becoming more Healthy, Holy & Whole it’s time that we start getting to the root of our problems. This begins with first identifying what those problems are through mindset renewal and then creating an actionable plan to combat them through kingdom habits.

Where our mindset goes our life flows and the habits that we consistently repeat on a daily basis soon become who we are. So, instead of simply dealing with the symptoms of problems that arise in our day to day lives, we can use these Kingdom Habits to get to the root and uproot these spiritual issues and conflicts while also building deeper connection with God.
